12 Aug Aberto 2024 Press Breakfast at Sar53
On August 12th, we hosted the press breakfast that officially kicked off Aberto, the event that has marked the start of the artistic season in Galicia for the past four years. The presentation featured speeches by Luisa Pita, president of the Contemporánea association and director of Galería Luisa Pita, and Lucía Carballeda, director of Galería Dupla. Both are coordinators of this initiative, which brings together the nine galleries that make up the association in A Coruña, Santiago de Compostela, Ourense, and Vigo.
In her remarks, Luisa Pita emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration between the participating galleries: “At Contemporánea, we understand that together we are stronger. This spirit of cooperation and mutual support has allowed us not only to grow as individual galleries but also to solidify ourselves as a collective with a strong, coherent identity.” Pita also highlighted the crucial role of sponsors, giving special thanks to Sar53, the Xunta de Galicia, and Hijos de Rivera: “None of this would be possible without the support of our sponsors, who have been essential in helping Aberto grow year after year.”
Lucía Carballeda shared her personal experience as the newest addition to the project: “I’m the latest to join the Contemporánea project, but from the very beginning, I felt like I fit perfectly into this initiative. Dupla is a prime example of how well Contemporánea works and the strengths of our association.” She also presented details of Aberto 2024, emphasizing the celebratory nature of the event: “This joint opening of all the galleries is more than just a simple launch; it’s a true celebration of contemporary art in Galicia.”
Aberto will officially kick off on September 19th with the simultaneous opening of all nine Contemporánea galleries, promising to be an unmissable event for art lovers in Galicia. Carballeda added: “We want to invite the public to embark on an artistic journey through our region, breaking down barriers and showing that art is accessible, close to home, and a source of enjoyment and reflection for everyone.”
