“Arquivo de Protocolos”

Xurxo Gómez-Chao’s career has evolved from his beginnings in painting to his latest works in which photography has become his fundamental means of expression. He uses elements found in his everyday reality to create a new and independent work with nature as the protagonist. Gómez-Chao’s work can be defined as multidisciplinary, as he combines photography with other media such as painting, ceramics and video. The duality between the rational and the visceral, as well as between the material and the dreamlike, is also an inherent characteristic of his creative universe, as well as his multiple references to classical culture and art history.

In the project “Arquivo de Protocolos”, the artist presents a set of photographs that stand out both for the complexity of the creative process and for the power of the visual metaphors. The author turns his personal gaze to the History of Art to construct fantastic trompe l’oeil pictures through the superimposition of a multitude of objects that invite the spectator to immerse himself in the images to discover the infinite details that are revealed as we stop to look at them. To do this, he builds ephemeral installations that he then photographs and edits. In this way we can approach the Spanish baroque or Klimt from a new perspective.
