09 Sep Introduction of New Partners at Fundación Ría
On September 9th, the official presentation of Aberto 2024, the event that kicks off the contemporary art season in Galicia, took place in Santiago de Compostela. The press conference was held at Fundación RIA and was led by Manuel Rodríguez, Director of Fundación RIA, Lucía Carballeda, Director of Galería Dupla and event coordinator, and Luisa Pita, President of the Contemporary Art Galleries Association of Galicia, Contemporánea, and Director of Galería Luisa Pita.
During the event, Lucía Carballeda emphasized the efforts made this year to ensure that Aberto’s campaign reflects a more current and accessible vision. She explained that the communication strategy has focused primarily on social media, traditional press, and public relations to broaden the reach and visibility of both the galleries and participating artists. “We’ve opted for a modern and accessible campaign, tailored to new forms of communication, always aiming to shine a light on the artists, who are the heart of everything we do. Our main goal is to democratize art, breaking down barriers and making the public feel like they are part of our galleries,” Carballeda stated.
Additionally, the Director of Galería Dupla shared her expectations for the joint opening of the nine galleries that make up Contemporánea, which will take place on September 19th: “Aberto is not only a celebration of contemporary art but also an invitation to explore Galicia through a unique artistic journey. The exhibitions we’ve curated offer a rich and diverse experience, featuring top-tier international artists who we’re confident will captivate the audience.”
For her part, Luisa Pita expressed her gratitude to the sponsors who have made this edition of Aberto possible and highlighted the crucial role they play in promoting contemporary art in the region. “September 19th marks the start of a new exhibition season in Galicia with Aberto, a joint opening that brings together the nine galleries of our association. This event is a unique opportunity to enjoy the diversity and creativity that define the contemporary artists we represent,” Pita affirmed.
The Aberto event, organized by the Contemporánea Association, will feature participation from the region’s most prominent galleries: Dupla, Luisa Pita, Metro, Trinta, Nordés, Vilaseco, PM8, Moret Art, and Marisa Marimón. Each gallery will showcase a selection of works by contemporary artists with significant potential, reflecting the innovation and talent that defines today’s art scene.
Pita also expressed her gratitude to all the entities involved in making the event possible, including the Xunta de Galicia, the Consellería de Cultura, Hijos de Rivera, NH Collection Santiago, as well as the Fundación RIA, Fundación María José Jove, and the Art History Department at USC. She highlighted the importance of Aberto as an event that connects art with the Galician territory, promoting an artistic journey across different cities in the region, such as A Coruña, Santiago de Compostela, Ourense, and Vigo. “This gallery tour is also a way to rediscover our land through art. At Contemporánea, we’ve always championed the idea that contemporary art should be accessible to everyone, and Aberto is one of the ways we make that a reality,” she concluded.
The opening of Aberto 2024 will take place on September 19th and promises to be a must-attend event for contemporary art lovers in Galicia. During the event, the public will be able to enjoy the inaugural exhibitions at the nine galleries, each offering a unique proposal that reflects the diversity and richness of contemporary art in Galicia and beyond.
