Antoni Miralda was born in Terrassa (Barcelona) in 1942. After a two-year stay in Paris and two years in London, in 1966 he settled in the French capital until 1972, when he moved to New York. He currently lives between Miami and Barcelona. In the 1960s, together with the so-called “Catalans of Paris” – Joan Rabascall, Jaume Xifra, Benet Rossell and Dorothée Selz – he carried out a series of happenings or collective rituals around the ceremonial of food based on colour and its symbolism. First in collaboration with Dorothée Selz and, from 1972, with the curator and gastronome Montse Guillén, he made food his object of artistic work.

Over the years he has developed large-scale installations with a non-conformist, festive, baroque and kitsch language that brings art closer to life. In outstanding projects such as Honeymoon Project, a symbolic linking of the statue of Columbus in Barcelona with the Statue of Liberty in New York, he uses a universal activity such as food to carry out a deconstruction of prejudices in an already global world. Many of his works promote collective participation, play and celebration.

His gastronomic ethnology has brought him wide international recognition. Since 2000, Miralda has focused on the FoodCulturaMuseum, an archive of multiple projects based on research and reflection on gastronomic diversity and its link to the cultures of the planet. Based in Miami and Barcelona, it explores and disseminates food culture through audiovisuals, music, books, furniture, objects and all kinds of documents.
